Moinho is the solo project of French composer and performer Franck Marquehosse. His talent quickly turned him from self-taught piano player into an established composer in his home country.
He started performing live in 2009 and attracted attention with ‘Movements and Variations for Satie’ in 2011 –a song he wrote as a tribute to Satie, inspired by the compilation 'Erik Satie et Les Nouveaux Jeunes' on Arbouse Recordings, feat. Dustin O'Halloran, Hauschka, Sylvain Chauveau and Max Richter.
What followed in 2012 was the extraordinary debut LP ‘Baltika’ which comprised of delicate and emotive tunes that earned him much-deserved praise and comparisons to Nils Frahm, Max Richter and Erik Satie.
Franck's expressiveness and noticeable skill as a composer encourages us to view his music on a similar plane to our own 130701 Records roster, but his work is by no means derivative. He has performed his solo piano pieces alongside musicians such as Dustin O’Halloran, Alina Orlova, Colleen and Le Loup and Hauschka.
