Record Store Day 2013

FatCat Records are proud to announce three special projects produced in limited editions exclusively for Record Store Day, 20 April 2013.

The Twilight Sad
The Twilight Sad vs Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat Split 7ʺ (7FAT124)
UK & Europe only - Limited to 500 copies
Black litho print on eco-natural recycled board with hand stamped labels

Following last year's hugely successful album No One Can Ever Know: Remixes, The Twilight Sad have teamed up with fellow Scots Bill Wells and Aidan Moffat for a split single which sees the jazz pianist and former Arab Strap frontman produce a low key, piano led reading of Alphabet, the opening track from No One Can Ever Know.
On the other side, The Twilight Sad have re-imagined ‘(If You) Keep Me In Your Heart’ from Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat’s brilliant album Everything’s Getting Older.

	Breton
Population Density / Governing Correctly Remix 12" (12FAT087)
UK & Europe only - Limited to 1000 copies on purple vinyl

London-based outfit Breton have meanwhile issued a one-off 12" of remixes by Artwork and Busy P.
Governing Correctly, taken from last year’s debut album ‘Other People’s Problems’, is a nod to Daft Punk and DFA, common influences for the band as a whole.
“The fact that Busy P was into one of our tracks was such an amazing experience, but when he sent us the remix he had made of it, we all lost our minds, and were in a state of total bliss for days, just playing it over and over again.
Population Density is about making music in a small room that you only share with 5 people, and then finding out that it has outgrown the room and has a life of its own.
The remix is by Artwork and he has turned it into something that sounds like a slab of pure Detroit.”

	Frightened Rabbit
The Midnight Organ Fight / Quietly Now LP (FATLP70XLTD)
Worldwide - Limited to 1000 copies on double heavyweight vinyl

2013 saw Frightened Rabbit achieve breakthrough success with their major label debut Pedestrian Verse, but newer fans may not be aware of what many critics hailed as their first great album, 2008’s The Midnight Organ Fight.
Released here on double vinyl alongside Quietly Now, a live acoustic version of the album recorded in a tiny pub in Glasgow, The Midnight Organ Fight was an instant classic, received with near universal acclaim.
This is the first time The Midnight Organ Fight has been available on vinyl in the US, and the first time Quietly Now has available on vinyl anywhere. Each album will also include one of four limited edition 12" art prints.
The Twilight Sad has announced a new batch of US tour dates in support of Frightened Rabbit, and they've added two headlining shows in San Francisco and Santa Cruz.

	A note from the band:

"We're very happy to announce that we will be supporting our good friends Frightened Rabbit on their West Coast dates in North America. During a night in the pub with FR we both agreed we'd love to tour with each other again and they suggested we come do some shows with them as a stripped back 3-piece which they have seen us do back home in Scotland many times before. We agreed, so that's what we're doing. These stripped back shows will give people in North America the opportunity to see the band in a different way. We're hoping it will showcase how important our songwriting process is and having a good song to begin with before adding the production is to our band."

The Twilight Sad's No One Can Ever Know - The Remixes is released today on CD, vinyl and download. James from the band has done a track-by-track guide to the album for the Quietus.

The band are playing their biggest headline show to date on the 15th December at Glasgow's Barrowlands.

The Twilight Sad’s third studio album No One Can Ever Know saw them bravely step in a new musical direction. Fresh influences such as Can, Autechre & PiL were digested, and an album thematically akin to ‘Holy Bible’ era Manics, or ‘The Downward Spiral’ era Nine Inch Nails gave existing fans something to think about. An even bigger step away from the sound TTS are known for is the forthcoming album ‘No One Can Ever Know – The Remixes’ – includingremixes by Liars, The Horrors, Com Truise, Optimo, Breton and more. Andy from the band explains the reasoning behind it:

"We like to put out something that bridges the gap between releases, but that will also continue the theme and artwork of the previous record. After the new minimal, synth led approach we did with 'No One Can Ever Know', it seemed fitting to follow up with a remix album into order to continue in that direction. We're really happy with all the mixes on there and how it's turned out. It's interesting to see people who come from different styles and background's perspective on our songs, and hear them taken somewhere we would have never thought about."

Twilight Sad remix album - PRE-ORDER NOW

We are now taking pre-orders for the The Twilight Sad's forthcoming remix album, a reworking of No One Can Ever Know. You can pre-order it ahead of the November 5th release date directly from our online store here.

An even bigger step away from the sound TTS are known for is the forthcoming album ‘No One Can Ever Know – The Remixes’ – including remixes by Liars, The Horrors, Com Truise, Optimo, Breton and more.
