To further stengthen FatCat’s relationship with Bubblecore USA, FatCat have licensed the vinyl rights to the forthcoming Dylan Group LP, ‘Ur-klang Search’, and will be releasing the doublevinyl LP simultaneously with the Bubblecore CD.
“Ur-klang Search is an important album for us here at Bubble Core. It’s a new stage of development for a band that’s grown through its adolescence, added members, made interesting and lasting contributions to the modern music scene, toured the U.S. x%x% Japan, and managed to sell 30,000 records worldwide in the process. It’s also the best album they’ve ever done - ask the band members and they’ll tell you. I know we always say that, but this album was recorded differently than what they’ve done in the past.
The Dylan Group, as you may know, started out as a two-person recorded project. Recent touring with a four-person band (including 2 drumsets, vibes, bass, marimbas, keys and trumpet) has made for an extremely impressive live show with lots of improvisation. So, to capture some of that energy, the band left their home studio and traveled to Bridgeport, CT to record half of the album live, jamming together, in one big room, with Peter Katis (Mercury Rev, Guster) at the console.
The result is outstanding. Heavy beats, swirling horns, gamelan polyrhythms, deep bass…. and vibraphones. The dub influence is there in full force, but the band comes at it from different angles, from the super-minimalist ‘live delay’ drum playing in “Let It Sit” to the blatant cover of the Orb’s “Towers Of Dub,” another classic electronic-tune-turned-live by The Dylan Group. For jungle breaks check out “The Crunch” or “Division Long.” The one latin jazz song that every DG record must have closes out the album, but not before the shoegazing layered-guitar rock of “Knowing Insider.” And somehow it all makes perfect sense. The energy of Ur-klang Search is multi-faceted; it’ll send you into dreamland or keep you up dancing.
