Originally intended as a precursor to this year’s acclaimed Vetiver album, ‘Thing of the Past’, FatCat is pleased to finally present the simultaneous release of a companion CDEP, ‘More of the Past’, and a limited 7" single, ‘Hey Doll Baby’ (b/w ‘Miles Apart’). Where the album comprised a set of cover versions of songs by some of band-leader Andy Cabic’s favourite artists, offering a joyful and intriguing insight into some of the music that has inspired and informed the band, here are six further songs, all previously unreleased, that inspired them - five on the CD along with one 7"-only song, ‘Miles Apart’. Once again, most listeners will be challenged to have ever heard the originals, and again these tunes all possess the rich Vetiver treatment that has made these special songs the band's own.
‘See You Tonight’ opens the EP with a flourish, presenting Vetiver in a new shade of the past, as they tackle yet another impossibly obscure treasure of a tune, this time by The Wizzards. ‘Hey Doll Baby’ follows and is already an established concert favorite, beloved by Vetiver's burgeoning fan base, as well as being the A-side of the limited edition 7" single. ‘Before the Sun Goes Down’ sees Vetiver going country rock with an old traditional classic. The EP closes with the band’s skillful redux of one of Grin's (Nils Lofgren's early 70's band) finest moment's, ‘Just to Have You’, and Gordon Bok's lovely ‘Hills of Isle Au Haut’,originally covered by former Jerry Garcia cohort and folk music mainstay, Jody Stecher.
‘Miles Apart’, the b-side of the 7" provides a strong taste of Cabic's love of 80's uk alternative pop, specifically this song by AR Kane, the same duo who co-wrote the sampladelic early rave classic, ‘Pump Up the Volume’.
