Giddy Motors

Formed in South London 1999 by Gaverick de Vis (guitar/vocals) and Manu Ros (drums/bass), and recently augmented in 2004 by their 6th bassist Justin Stone, Giddy Motors lock their jazz and punk-rock billygoat horns and let the sonic wrestling commence.

Equally capable of displaying an affinity with Clear Spot era Captain Beefheart or conjuring thoughts of The Pop Group's avant-punk experiments, Giddy Motors defy easy categorisation, reconstructing influences in a context of their own.

Their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Make It Pop!’, recorded at Electrical Audio by Steve Albini, was released in September 2002 and off the back of it came the singles ‘Magmanic’, ‘Whirled By Curses’ and tours of the UK, mainland Europe and a 10,000 mile tour of North America in 2003.

During the European and American tours the group had been in creative overdrive, showcasing new songs on the road as they developed an increasing batch of material. These new songs were honed through live performances which gave them an urgency that the band were keen to get on record as soon as possible.

Demos were worked on and turned out to be closer to the real thing than the band had expected, although at this time they did not realise that the musical cohesion came hand-in-hand with another split in the group.

Recorded for just £900 over 4 weekends by 21 yr old Tobias Warwick Jones in a Greenwich Light-Industrial Unit, the music grabs you by the throat right from the get go and doesn't stop shaking until it's good and ready. It's hard to believe that such a big and powerful sounding record has come out of such limited resources.

Markedly ironic in it’s titling, the second and last Giddy Motors album, 'Do Easy', was released in August 2006, and the group disbanded shortly after.
